Aaaaaaand I’m Back!

Woot and Huzzah! I seem to be back online. It was weird. I kept trying to run the upgrade script from /wp-admin/upgrade.php and kept getting the dreaded “no input file found.” So, for grins, I tried logging in and got what I was looking for… “your database needs upgrading.”

I still haven’t checked everything, but for now at least I won’t have to deal with hundreds of cache files, thousands of cache files, millions and billions and trillions of cache files. Yippee!

Bonus points if you know what childrens book the above paragraph was based on. ;)

Wish Me Luck

I am upgrading my version of WordPress. If I’m not back soon, you’ll know why!

New look

Whaddaya think? I like it (especially the picture treatment), but I can’t seem to figger out how to get the second level of categories to show up. :( I might keep it fer a bit… mebbe.

Later …

OK. Figured out the categories second level. The sidebar widget doesn’t include them but the standard sidebar does so I just rearranged that manually. I’ll bet if I dig around in the widget files, I can find where to change that. ‘Course I don’t think it is something I’ll do frequently so maybe I won’t mess with it at this point.

WordPress and Cache Files

OMG! The trouble I was having with cache errors was not because of the changes at my host. It was because of the hundreds (so many I couldn’t open the folders) of cache files that this version of wordpress (2.0.2) creates.

Once those were deleted… took me literally two days of constant deletions… thing sped up and the cache error stopped. I need to update my verison of wp. I *think* the next one allows you to disable the caching. I certainly don’t need it!

Comments Working

OK. I was able to fix the problem with the comments. The error was actually helpful (for once). Thanks, Dayle, for letting me know. I really should have checked that before putting the new blog up. *blush*

OK, fine

I’ve had a change of heart about WordPress. There are a few things I haven’t figured out yet but on the whole I am very happy with performance and configurability.

The recipe section was easier to incorporate than I expected. But the links are a hard-coded page/entry thingy. *meh*

Photos will probably be moved to yahoo photos. Unlike Flickr, I can store (and view) more than 200 photos for free. ;)
Time to fix dinner. Gotta go.

Learning

Ok, I seem to be figgering things out a bit. That “About Me” thing has to be edited manually… or rather that is how I’ve gotten it to change. That “the_author_description” php tag only works within the post “loop.” Seems there should be an automated way to update that.

The “Photos” link is showing up now, but I’ve had to hard code that into the template. Again, I would think that it should be doable automatically from the links admin. Or at least I haven’t figgered out how to make it show automatically.

Back to schoolwork!
