Tomorrow morning, bright and (kinda) early, I run my first 5K; Sam runs the 1 mile fun run and Jessie is doing the 150 yard tot trot. Squeeee!
We’ve all got our clothes set out. Waffle mix is all ready to go. My victory dance is keeping cool in the fridge (a Guiness… for afterwards
).
I am more excited that I really want to admit. Can ya tell?
After this, I promise to get back to posting more.

Wow. This morning’s speed work run felt better than great. Did all 3 fast segments at a 10 minute mile pace and feel like I could do more. Weird. Really weird. But great too.
I am dripping with sweat though. Even with the AC on the humidity is just about unbearable. But I feel fantastic. Started last night… just feeling really great. Bouncy great. Mentally unfogged. Even at 8pm when I’m usually ready to collapse in bed.
In light of Monday’s outbreak after dinner, this seems really weird. I don’t know what caused it. The only thing new I ate yesterday was some greek yogurt. And I felt really lethargic afterwards. Then after dinner my mouth just about blistered! Grrr! Hmmm… I did have lunch meat Monday but the ingredients didn’t list wheat. Sigh. What ever it is, I have a DR visit on Monday. I just hope that will shed some light on things. Either way, the wheat free eating continues.
We’re all itchy eyed here. Sam and Bob have been the worst. Even had to get some serious allergy medicine for Sam. AFter a 10 minute walk last week Sam could barely see through completely bloodshot and swollen eyes. Poor Kiddo. I’m not really comfortable giving it to him, it being Veramyst, but then neither was I comfortable watching him suffer so.
Well, on with the day. We’re reviewing and in some cases testing where I see Sam has mastered the information. And I’ve got to clean a bit (ok more than a bit). My mom will be here on Saturday!

*Yawn* Managed to drag myself out of bed this AM to do some speed work. LOL! Makes me laugh to think about me, running and speed. Anyhoo. It goes something like this and is about 4 miles long (starting mile/speed):
- 4/4
- 3/5.5
- 2.5/4.3
- 2.25/6
- 1.75/4.3
- 1.5/6
- 1/4
Hopefully that makes sense. I’m having trouble typing this. LOL! All of this, according to the dreadmill, consumes 636 caleries. Woot!
I feel drenched pretty good. Did have some rice cereal with honey and coffee 15 minutes before I started running this morning. Pretty sure it made a difference. Biggest difference afterwards… my face doesn’t feel like it is on fire. *sigh* It is a good thing. (my current mantra)
The wheat-free trial is still going on. It is weird but I seem to think about food more. Like “what CAN I eat next.” LOL! A trip to the convenience store yesterday showed me I can’t get much to eat there. Not like I usually do, but still, the option just won’t be available.
Went to the HFS and picked up some WF supplies. Was gonna wait but I NEED to bake SOMETHING NOW! Coly How!
I see a grain(less) mill in my near future. I can buy in bulk grind rice/ garbanzos/ quinoa/amaranth/ etc cheaper and grind it my own friggin self.
Say it with me now: “This is a good thing.”

Distance: 4.4 mi
Time: 47 minutes
Roughly 11 min miles
Not bad. I hurt… but in a good way.
Got up at 6am to run with Mama N at 7. She is faster, lighter… and younger. Much. Younger. However, she is a mom (of 4) and a homeschooling mom at that.
Made for some great conversation while running. Her husband does triathlons so I think we need to get both families together. I know someday Bob will be doing “tri’s” too.
Maybe we could trade babysitting time so that Bob and I could run together!
Mama N has also inspired me to get back on track for loosing weight. (portion control) I’ve regained that 10 pounds and am back up to 170.
I’d really like to get down to 160 this year, if not 150.

Okay, here goes. I’m going to try to keep track of when I run and how I feel. Coach recommends that I be able to run 4 miles comfortable before signing up for my first 5k.
on the treadmill… 3.5 miles 13.20 pace.
Went a little faster than usual. Half a mile into it I started feeling pretty good so I tried lengthening my stride. Felt good until 2 miles went by then things started to hurt. Not bad. Just kinds stiff and a little uncomfortable. Tried shortening my stride a bit and that seemed to help.
Somewhere arount 2 1/2 miles I zoned out until I had half a mile left. No idea where I went (or how I kept from falling over). LOL! Went a little faster at the end and felt like I finished with a little energy to spare. Through the whole thing my breathing felt just fine. Weird.
I’ve been having trouble with painful shins so I warmed them up before I ran. They don’t hurt so bad right now so maybe that will do the trick.
That’s all. Bob and I have a date tonight. Woot!

I jogged on the dreadmill tonight. Not that I mind doing that. Derned glad to have it really. Don’t know why the boys don’t like it. I like the control of it. I know its there… whenever I need exercise and it will tell me precisely how fast, how far and how long. It tells calories burned too (I like that!) but I have no idea how accurate that is.
Sorry, got off track… whatwuzitalkingbout? Oh yeah. I jogged tonight. Not really fast. 15 minute mile pace for the most part. Non stop. 33 minutes. 2-point-five miles.
I was listening to Bob’s spin cd too. Man’s got great taste in music.
Anyway, 28 minutes into my jog a really great (and fast paced) song came on. So I upped the speed. It hurt. And I liked it.
Yup. Just sick.

Friday was Sam’s 10th birthday party. This is him with the coveted DS game “Shadow the Hedgehog.” Can you tell he was excited?
Instead of cake, I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and impaled the top cookie with 10 candles. This was served with icecream. Everyone seemed content with this deviation from tradition. Sam doesn’t really like cake so why should he have a birthday cake?
(Baroness Boo: Thank you so much for your call! We miss you and will try to call tomorrow evening)

Friday I also received in the mail 8 glorious ounces of merino top, pictured here with some of it spun into a 2-ply yarn. The Spinning Bunny calls this colorway “Sandstone.” By Saturday I had it nearly all spun up. I plied the last bit with brown crochet cotton. The cotton disappears into the colors and the wool looks like boucle yarn. Kina neat. The two skeins pictured remind me of indian corn. I think I’ve talked myself into starting an Etsy shop to sell hand spun yarn. I’ve looked at several hand spun yarns out there now and I don’t think mine look too bad really. Whaddaya think? Would you buy these skeins?
Today I ventured into the local Asian market. Oh man! I’m glad I didn’t go there sooner. LOL! So many things I’ve been looking at online were there. Including a great mandolin slicer. Wowie! Zowie! I sliced many, many things very, very thin tonight. Don’t know how I’ve done with out one for so long. Best thing is that it was $7 cheaper there than online. Woot!
On a closing note: Today I challenged Sam to run one mile each day (on the dreadmill) for the next 6 days. Wish me luck! I gotta do something to start training for a 5K next year. :O

Hero: “a man of distinguished courage or ability” according to the dictionary.
Yep. That about sums it up. I could get sappy and wax poetic (at least I could try) about this man but I’m not sure it would explain it any better. Love ya hon!!! I knew you could do it.
More pictures from the KC marathon and KC can be found starting here.
