Been reading another homeschooling blog carnival and found some good (and interesting advise) from Wild About Math: How to get past stupid math mistakes
Under #6: Take Movement Breaks:
“juggling (Sheppard encourages students to learn to juggle as a way to reset their brains. I suspect that the left-right brain integration of juggling is helpful as well.)”
We do take “breaks” of some sort when things get to flustered. Usually go outside or something but the funny thing is that I have actually been considering teaching the kids how to juggle. At first just thought it would be something fun to do together. A quick google search turned up this site with some very helpful animation. Now to make some beanbags…

You gotta read this blog entry at “Sometimes I’m Actually Coherent.” I found it through 97th Carnival of homeschooling at Principled Discovery. It eloquently describes (with examples) why a homeschooling parent can educate their child(ren) better than a credentialed teacher with a master’s degree. (without bashing said credentialed teacher!)
Now… how to turn my “student X” into a “student Y?” (if you read the article that will make sense
)
I’m off to bed before I read another link!

From time to time I read a few posts from various homeschooling blog “carnivals.” I’ve found it a great way to “meet” other homeschooling bloggers and get a glimpse of how other homeschoolers do things.
Usually I just skim and read a post or two, rarely getting back to read more. (there are always interruptions of some sort) But today I read the Charlotte Mason Blog Carnival at The Heart of Harmony. No, really. I READ the WHOLE THING. EVERY post. Top to bottom. Mind you, I don’t fancy myself a CM HSer but I did learn quite a few things that I might work into what we do now and have a few (more) things to think about… especially in the area of dictation. There were several “Ah-hah!” moments and a couple “Oh!” too.
Wonder if there is a “Dash-of-this-and-smidge-of-that” category for homeschoolers.
Probably just falls more under “ecclectic.”

Squeeee! I’m famous.
My post “Mommy, I want to see Mars” is mentioned in the Carnival of Space, week 2. Go check it out.
If you’ve never been to a homeschooling blog carnival before, it is a great way to find other HSing bloggers and read what they think about a particular subject. There are lots of carnivals out there.
