Can’t believe it has been over a month since I last blogged. So much has happened I don’t know where to start! But seeing I have 10 minutes before I need to be in bed I’ll just relate how Bob and I spent the last day in 2008…
After dropping the kids off at a friends, we ran the First Night 5k together. It was kinda neat (and weird) to be there just the two of us. (will I always feel guilty when I leave the kids with someone else?!?) Weird be be surrounded by so many runners, many of whom I could tell were serious runners. I felt a bit out of place and cold.
30 degrees I think it was when we left the starting line. Brrr! I had gloves and a helmet liner in addition to long running gear so I was warm enough once I got going.
Somewhere after the first mile and before the halfway point I tripped, ripping my brand-new-never-worn-before running pants. Immediately after I fell six arms appeared helping me up. All of them runners worried about my knees and ankles which at the time felt just fine. At the halfway point I felt pretty good and pround of myself for not going to hard up to that point.
As I neared the last uphill block, there was Bob waiting to cheer me on. I’d be lying if I said all my aches went away at that point. But the sound of his voice and the smile on his face did inspire me to dig just a little deeper and finish a little faster. Have I mentioned lately how great he is.
I crossed the line at 20:10, a minute-and-a-half faster than my first 5k. Goal achieved and knees bloody. LOL! They didn’t hurt until I thawed out. I almost took a picture but figured it would be a bit TMI.
After cleaning up, we headed back to our friends to celebrate the new year, staying until 2am! I think it is the first time Bob and I have ever stayed up that late. We’re still recovering from it sleep-wise. I have completely become a morning person now. Resistance was futile.
Well, my 10 minutes was up 10 minutes ago. I’m off to bed. More soon(er or later).
