Friday Freewrite: Gold rush
3/7/08
What would happen if you found gold in your backyard?
If I found gold in my yard, I’d get as much as I can grab and cash it, get some of it and save some for later, then go to the nearest target or another store with video game stuff and ether buy a Wii system or an Xbox360 and as many games that are compatible with until I run out of money and save some money for my parents. And give the rest to charity.

If I found gold in my yard. It may sound kinda weird, but I’d be worried about all the great moss on the ground. I mean I’d want to dig up some of the gold but I wouldn’t want to destroy all that great moss. Maybe I’d relocate most of it to a moss garden. I could use some of the money from the sale of the gold to build it.
I think I might save most of the money for my kids education. I worry about that. Some for retirement for Bob and I. Some I’d like to spend on me. I need new bras. There’s a place in town that apparently does fittings. I’ve wanted to be “fitted” for a long time but never knew where to do it. I even have a coupon to get bras at this place. (a friend gave it to me)
Sounds kinda boring, eh.
Bob and I could go traveling once the kids were grown of course. We could do that bike tour of England. Hmmm. Maybe we’d all take a trip to Japan. Sam really wants to go. That would be an awesome family vacation. Would make for some great photo albums.
‘Course there’s also fixing up the house and doing everything we want do to do it. Then it would really feel like ‘ours.’ We haven’t even painted the walls yet. Jessie has been helping take down the wall paper in her room though. J
Or the garden. We could do everything we want to have an awesome garden. Totally landscape the area… hmmm. Now I’m back to the worry about the moss. Totally re-landscaping would totally remove it. Weird, eh? To be so concerned about something so small. Maybe it is a mom thing. But it makes me smile.
There’s also the charities I’d like to give to. But only after the family is taken care of. Maybe that is selfish. But if we’re not secure, I don’t feel right helping someone else feel that way. If we were taken care of I’d like to give to the humane society.

OMG! What a busy day.
10 - 12: Hang out at Bonkers with 2 other HSing families
12 - 12;30: eat at Sonic
12;30 - 1:00: Home to pick up stuff for the CoOp and let dog out of crate
1:00 - 4:00: CoOp
4:00 - 5:00: just good old socializing
5:00 - 6:00: back home with just one kid to let out dog
6:00 - 7:00: Meet friends and son to watch friend’s TKD practice. Son wants to get back into it
7:00 - 9:00: watch History Channel… Constellations and Cosmic Collisions
10:00 mom collapses into bed!
We don’t usually do that much running around. And the house shows it! I’m looking forward to a (somewhat) quieter day today. I have a dental appt this morning and we have a puppetry lesson this afternoon. But AFAIK, that is all.

I just read a great article in the latest issue of The Homeschool Mome eNewsletter. The article was by Amy Hollingsworth and was titled, “When Being a Mom Isn’t Enough.”
It touched on exactly what I’ve been feeling lately. Sure, I still enjoy being a SAHM and homeschooling the kids. But… at the end of the day everything I’ve done is undone and I have nothing to show for it.
Amy talks about her mother who confided in her this tip. At the end of the day after all the kids were in bed, Amy’s mom would go down to the basement and sew on a dress for the remaining hours of the day. She would then take the half-sewn dress and hang it on her bedroom door so that she would see it first thing in the morning. She’d have physical proof that not everything she’d done the day before was undone.
I need do decide what my half-done dress is. Problem is I have so many things to choose from. LOL! And I don’t always have hours “left over” at the end of the day. I really need to be in bed by 10:30pm. Some days it is a sprint to get there by then.
Here’s a copy of the article at Home Ed Mag. Enjoy!

Today Sam and I started working on days of the week in Japanese. We even made sound file (WMA) of the English days of the week song using the Japanese words. It takes the equivalent of 2 verses to get all the syllables in but it works… kinda.
I’m desperately searching for ways to jump start our learning. Just feels rather stagnant lately.

This picture is of a filefolder game I made for the basic hiragana characters. The characters are on the top of the flap and the romaji is shown when you lift it. I made an oops doing “me” twice but I’ve fixed that in the PDF file here and added spaces between the columns. The black lines show where you cut. I’ll be doing another one where the symbols aren’t so organized to make it a little more challenging. Maybe someone else will find them useful too.
We have some other hiragana learning games in mind: solitaire (match hiragana symbol to romaji), go fish (pairs of hiragana, no romaji)… hmmm… seems there was something else. Anyway. I’ll post those when we’ve done them.
