Seeing my two beautiful children bubbling with Christmas cheer this morning did much to get me out of my ho-hum-glums. Seeing their faces light up over the toys I made for them really helped too.
Even the cat seemed amazingly better today. Though my back was amazingly NOT.
I’ve uploaded pictures from today here. If you go here, you can see a picture of all the things my WDH made for me. He’s even uploaded plans for the yarn swift he made. It is really spiff! Did you see the two walnut nostepindes? The wood grain is so amazingly beautiful. One is going up in the Etsy shop. So if yer interested, lemeno. The other… is MINE!
So, with faith in Christmas spirit restored, I am looking forward to the next one.
I hope yours was as magical.

Hello! I’m still here. Sorry so long between posts. Between long nights playing Santa’s elf and life in general I have not felt much like blogging and this week really topped it off.
It started out very nicely. My sis and BIL came down for a visit. It was the first time they’d seen the new house. I cooked for them and they survived.
Woot!
They had brought their 3 dogs with them, so Thursday we all went to a local dog park. It was sloppy, and still icy in places but I figured that wouldn’t matter much. What I didn’t figure was that Kirby, our dog, would chase the geese… out onto the frozen lake… and fall… through a hole in the ice… in the freaking middle of the lake. No, really.
It was like watching one of those home videos on animal planet… owner calling helplessly from the shore… poor dog trying frantically to get out of the ice. Only it was me and it was my dog. Somehow, our dog was able to pull himself back onto the ice and run back to the shore. Luckily my sis is studying to be a vet and was there to instruct us on how to warm him up without sending him into shock. Kirby has no idea how lucky he is to be alive.
Of course, not wanting to be outdone by the dog, Mirage, our cat, decides to go into kidney failure. As we waved goodbye to family visitors leaving early due to incoming storms, we jumped into the car with a pre-seizure cat and headed to the vet.
That was yesterday. Today, $300 dollars later, Mirage is home but the prognosis is not good and her future is not certain. No one, not our vet or my sis or her teachers, knows why this happened or if she will get better. If her kidneys do not improve, the hard fact is we can’t afford to keep her alive on 3 different drugs and special food.
Given that, I’m finding it hard to be in a very festive mood. I really had grand plans of starting some family traditions this year and really getting into the spirit of the holidays for once. But little things all month and now this has me feeling rather humbuggy.
Oh, and my back went out too.

Just a brief note (while power is on and network is up) that we’re okay and have everything we need to wait out the ice storms.
Power was out for a good bit last night. I am not sure how long. Cable network just came back up. Bob had to go out and de-ice the heatpump fan blades this morning. I’m baking/cooking/cleaning while we have power and hot water.
The birds are fun to watch (from the comfort of a heated home). But wanted all to know we are okay. If you try to call the house line and can’t get through, try the cell phones.
I think it is safe to say that winter it well and truely here. LOL!
Update: Today’s storm slid to the south of us. Lets hope tomorrow’s does the same.

I’m here, just busy. Head full of fiber fumes. Didya notice the Etsy bug on the left? DidyaDidyaHuh? Started the Etsy shop and am checking every hour for anxiously awaiting my first sale.
Made these yummies yesterday with this recipe. They’re Lucia Buns. Yeah, I know that St. Lucia’s Day isn’t until next week but we were talking about Christmas traditions from other places and we had time. Very easy. We were fresh out of saffron
and I meant to use cinnamon but forgot. They were really yummy anyway. This is a recipe I’d really like to play with…. even if it has me running for the benedryl after I try a taste.
OK, to bed with me.

Thought I’d show off the latest spinnings with a really bad photo. Did the blue one today. They are all bulky weight. I still have about 6 ounces each left to spin.
My wheel has developed the most annoying squeak. I think it is time to oil it. Need to get one of those little bottles of Neetsfoot oil… and a WPI gauge. Right now I am wrapping a ruler.
Went out to the nearby Amish community today with friends. OMG! I will definitely be going out there on a regular basis. At least monthly if not bi-weekly. Fresh-from-the-cow milk that we can afford! Same with eggs!
