Carnivals

From time to time I read a few posts from various homeschooling blog “carnivals.” I’ve found it a great way to “meet” other homeschooling bloggers and get a glimpse of how other homeschoolers do things.

Usually I just skim and read a post or two, rarely getting back to read more. (there are always interruptions of some sort) But today I read the Charlotte Mason Blog Carnival at The Heart of Harmony. No, really. I READ the WHOLE THING. EVERY post. Top to bottom. Mind you, I don’t fancy myself a CM HSer but I did learn quite a few things that I might work into what we do now and have a few (more) things to think about… especially in the area of dictation. There were several “Ah-hah!” moments and a couple “Oh!” too. ;)

Wonder if there is a “Dash-of-this-and-smidge-of-that” category for homeschoolers. ;) Probably just falls more under “ecclectic.” :D

One Response to Carnivals

    Hope,

Your response is just the sort of experience that makes putting the CM blog carnival together worthwhile. I think there are so many families that jump on this or that homeschooling bandwagon and think that they need to try to stick with that one model, even when it isn’t working. Homeschooling for the long term needs to have some “tweaking” in order to make it fresh and new.

CM ideas are easily incorporated into any homeschooling materials. It makes you more open to slowing down the reading, experiencing the joy that comes with sharing the time with your children. I love that there is as much effort to include art and music and nature study into a day as there is math and science….each in its own little time slot. Meaningful learning.

Thanks so much for the kind words, they are appreciated.
